It is important to keep in mind when growing organically that consistency is key.
If you are not consistent, there is nothing I can tell you here that will help you in the long run. Even if you get a viral post that gets millions of engagement, if you don’t consistently produce content of a similar quality, you will fall back into irrelevance within months. The world has a short attention span.
When it comes to growing an audience, you need to start off by putting yourself in the shoes of your audience. What kind of posts would you engage with?
We have all seen those spammy, obvious click-bait posts which we just scroll by. Why would we post content like that and expect user engagement?
You need to ensure every piece of content you create contains information of value to your target audience.
The question, “Why am I seeing this?” needs to have an obvious answer, so don’t post content that is irrelevant to your audience even if it’s interesting to you
Your content needs to be authentic. This is the step where I see a large majority of businesses fall short. It needs to feel like a genuine effort has been made to add value. Do not just copy and paste some random article that you didn’t write with a random excerpt. No one will ever engage with it.
Easy steps to making your content to be authentic: Firstly, create your content!
You can take this further by explaining why the content is relevant to your audience, then attach a question or call to action. This will show, at the bare minimum, that this is not spam and was created by a real person who will actually engage with their responses.
Another key aspect is to engage with every single comment on your social media platforms
The last point would be to plan your content. I recommend a minimum of 3-4 pieces of content every week. It is easy to get overwhelmed and not know what to post when there is no structure to schedule.
This can lead to a decrease in the quality of your content. This is where a social media calendar comes in handy.
Above is an example of a calendar I made for a client. This allows us to schedule content weeks in advance and every day when it is time to post, we have content ready.
Having a theme can also help in simplifying the process.
You also research hashtags to ensure they are being optimally used during the planning stage.
